August 23. 1915 The August number of "Canadian Business" publishes an interesting article entitled "Ottawa Parade" in which the writer suggests a possible majority or lorty for the Liberal party in the present election. It analyzes the political situation as it appeared just before the magazine went to press. According to the writer, the torpedoing of the Conservative party by Hon. H. H. Stevens meant the downfall of the Bennett administration but yet he did not think there would be many Stevens Conservatives elected. Their stronghpld he suggested was in Ontario but even mere, wniie they would take a good many votes, they would not be strong enough to elect their men except possibly in a very few individual cases. Evidently the writer of the article in" question would like to have seen Mr. Bennett returned to power. He speaks of the unfortunate illness of the Prime Minister and its effect on the electorate that had to some extent generally will change with sufficient rapidity to mater ially affect the outlook when the votes are counted. Thus the effect of the radio! speeches early in the year was lost. He also mentioned the astonishing scramble of ministers for safe exits. The writer prophesies that the coming election will show conclusively that the people refuse to be bothered about the C. C. F. as a federal political factor and suggests that the prospects of the Liberal party are very bright. It is assured that the Liberals will pull the country out of a hole and it intimates that business people will welcome the removal of restrictions nn foreitm and do mestic trade. Quality .rather than quantity of government is what is wanted more than anvthine- else. j ----'--- That is m the business view. For the view of the averarre wage earner one has to turn elsewhere but nowhere is there any evidence that any other party than the Liberal is .likely to secure anything like a majority in the next nouse.
