NAVY WINS IN SOCCER Christison's Four Goals in Second Period Give R. C. N. V. R, 4 To 2 Win Over Legion With Doug Christison scoring all the Navy's goals In the second half, Royal Canadian Naval Reserve won its first game of the season in the Senior Football League last evening by defeating Canadian Legion 4 to 2. Three teams in the league are now in a tie in the Stuart Shield standing. First scoring was by Cromp for the Legion in the first half with a nice run through. Henry Dickens put the veterans two up to end the scoring for the first half. The Navy broke away in the se-cond half and Christison went through twice to score in quick succession. Then a penalty was awarded against Dickens and taken by Christison to put the Navy in the lead, the fourth counter being registered soon thereafter. Andy Home was referee and J. Bremner and J. Len Elienwood of California Evangelical services at the local Pentecostal Assembly on Sunday were well atended. At the morn ing service Rev. Len Elienwood of California spoke on the subject of "The Bat, Owl and Vulture." Adapting the characteristics of the.'c creatures to a text from the Book of Leviticus, the evangelist brought out some interesting facts. At the evening service sixty per sons gathered to enjoy the sing ing and to hear Pastor Ellehwooil speak on the subject "The Way to the City." The text was from Ec-cleslastices 10:15. "The labor of the foolish wearyeth every one nf inep Decause he knoweth not how to go to the city." The sneaker said there were many who thought they were on the road but their foundation was not built on Scrin- ture teachings. The way to the city was not found by the way of works. Nor was it right for people to think they were on the wav to the city because they thought thev were. The only way was found tnrough Jesus Christ and his atonement. It was a sad thine for people to come to the end of the way only to find that they had been on the wrong road. The speaker urged his listeners to follow the Cross of Christ which was the way to the city of Heaven. Pastor North led the meeting in the service of song. Mr. Elienwood spoke last night on the topic of "The Woman Who Proposed to a Man." Fire Loss Here Last Month Did Not Mount High The city fire department responded to six alarms during the month of May as compared with 14 in the same month last year. So far in 1936 there have been a total of 31 alarms in comparison with 51 up to a corresponding date last year. Loss from fire this May amounted to only $9, this being at the Savoy Hotel when a cigarette set fire to a mattress. Other calls were to brush fires with one false alarm. NEW ROYAL HOTEL J.
