Any increased local activity will mean the overcrowding of the present hospital. VALUE OF THE MOUNTAIN The value of Mount Oldf ield as a recreation centre will become very great in years to come. Eventually there will be'a motor road up the mountain and along the top of the ridge from one end to the other so that visitors to the city riiav see the wonderful views in different directions. When this time eomeS the local taxi cars will make a good thing during the tourist season. It is one of the improvements we shall have to centre on when the proper time arrives. TAX TIME AGAIN i ' This is the season of the year when we get our assessment notices, our tax demands and our government forms to be filled in. It is at such a time we realize how costly is oiir civilization and the high price we have to pay for the benefits received. In any business house it takes weeks preparing the material for filling out the forms required and the payment of the various taxes, federal, provincial anti-municipal ushers in the new year in a manner which leave's a bad impression for the rest of the season. "However, we must pav so we might as well look pleas- ant;about it. We must fill up the forms whether we like it or. not. We must all pay not only for the present cost of government but for the opening up of the country years ago ana ior me money exnenaea .legitimately or prodigally wasted in years 'gone by. : : KEEPING SOLVENT There is a source of trreat satisfaction in keeping solvent. To be able to pay all delts and have a few dollars to sijare in the bank gives a feeling of security and pleasure that is much greater than the ioy of spending. To meet the rest of the world with the feeling that vou owe them nothing is snlendid but it must be remembered that there is something more than money we may owe We may have paid all our legal debts and yet be a hopeless debtor. FARMING' OUTLOOK 'Continued Irfim cair one) longer without sacrificing quality. Prince Rupert absorbed about fifty percentjif yie shipments, thebrtf- ance going to Vancouver, rnces, although higher than for tlw two years previous, were still too low to return the farmer any appreciable profit for his labor and feed. It resulted, however. In releasing necassary cash that was spread among a large number over the area. Prosperity Features "It becomes increasingly evident that three factors affect any hope of a permanent return to prosperous conditions in the Interior: "First, a generally higher level of prices for farming products. "Second, Increased settlement throughout the Interior, thus Insuring a continuous and sufficient volume of staphs farm products to supply and retain present markets. "Third, an extensive develop-1 ment of local markets which Is.l i perhaps, the answer to all prob- ! iems. The area Is too distant from j large southern markets to hope to market profitably unless the level of agricultural prices rises considerably, it Is the home market that is most profitable and. If such were available, settlement would follow of Its own accord. The hope for permanent prosperity In the interior then depends directly upon im mediate and progressive develop ment at Prince Rupert, the logical J market for the interior. !
