TWO CONSTABLES ARE DISMISSED, Services of Constables Mc- Arthur and Swasey Dispensed With by the Police Commis- sion at Special Meeting Yes- terday. Constables McArthur and Swa- sey, both of the Prince Rupert police force have been dismissed from the force. This decision was come after a meeting of the Police Comissioners, Acting Mayor Hilditch taking the place of Mayor Manson as chairman of the Comission. The meeting was held yesterday afternoon in the| ‘ Mayor's office at the City Hall and was held behind closed doors. No for the ~dismissal of the constables is given out beyond the statement by Acting Mayor Hilditch that the men’s services are unsatisfactory to the Commission. The Acting Mayor, however, hinted that the reason for the Commission’s dissatisfac- tion with these constables was based on the result of an investiga- tion of charges made that the constables had been toc familiar in their associations with the res- tricted district, for the presumed purpose of keeping themselves posted with the movements of the criminal class frequenting thar district. “The Commissioners intend to puta stop to this intimacy between the police and the restricted dis- trict,’ are the words of Acting Mayor Hilditch as chairman of the Police Commissioa. to short reason TROOPS CLASH WAR IN CHINA Fierce Fighting Between Rebe}s and Imperial Troops at Han- kow—Twelve Warships Pres- ent.
