DAILY EDITION Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1938 TAX ON SUGAR It is to be hoped that Finance MIfiister DurinlnJ, When considering his first budget will have in mind the possibility of removing the tdfc on sugar imposed by the litte Bennett government. Sugar is used by everyone and constitutes almost thq only luxury enjoyed by many poor families. To tax it is to tax the working people of the! country who pay the larg est portion of it. Even Mayor" McGeer is finding that. He is pledged to up hold ldW and order and in doing so he falls foUl of many of his supporters. We heard very little about Mayor Sjmpson while .he was in office Which is probably all in his favor. That also is one reason why he was beaten at the recent election.
