New parties arise and for a brief period seem likely to sweep the country. Only Jew years ago the people of Ontario thought they wanted a farmer government. They got it and found it was much like other governments except that .it spent more and left the province farther in debt than any other government had done. The .people tired of it and swept it from of f ice at the first opportunity. There have been dozens of other groups and parties arise in Canada but mostbf them have died aborning. The latest of these was the "Stephens Reconstruction Party which was formed just, prior to the last election. In the United States there was the Bull Moose party led by Roosevelt and more recently the Townsend movement. British Columbia has had her progressives, her unionists and her various other movements, all of which have passed into oblivion. These political spasms have been inspired by some outstanding leader oi about as a result of unusual conditions. None have been permanent. In this province the C C F, looked for a time like a movement that had possibilities but of late it has become ouite evident that it has, run its course and will either gradually or suddenly disappear. ;It has within itself all the seeds of discord and 'disintegration and the wonder is it has not broken up ere this. The possibility is that the ex tremists will take the low iroad and join the Communists; and that the .moderates will take the high .road and be' absorbed by one of the older parties. POWER OF MINI) The power of mind over matter is universally recognized today. The leader of men is a person with a strongl mind who is able to inspire his followers and give them the will to.do things. j It is well known in medical science jthat the mind in-1 fluences the body and that to effect a cure it is necessary to keep the patient cheerful and hopeful. It is also known that many people have power to heal by virtue of their mental efficiency, Doctors use mental healing or suggestion as part of their art. Many religions have healing as one of their main. features, We have all seen how one man through his eloquence can sway a multitude. The powerful speaker is one wftd .allows his mind to play upon the audience and influence it while he is speaking. Students of Indian lore tell how the native medicine man could kill or cure a person by the power' of the mind. 1 The moral of this is that the mind is given us for use and that if it is properly directed it can become a great benefit to the individual and. the community.
