Ramsay MacDtinald is looked upon in Britain as a traitor by the people Avhose support he formerly received and with doubt by the new group that has adopted him. Between .these two antagonistic groups became a flop at' election time. The son was defeated lor the same reason. Both father -and son are able men, good speakers, and well qualified for the positions they occupy. They were not defeated because of their lack of ability but because nobody felt quite sure where they stood. It peaks' -well "for Prime Minister Baldwin that he stood by his new'ly-'foUnH friends and secured seats for them. The Prime Minister suggests that the action Of '.Canada ju wuimrawing support irom us aeiegate at uenevaaveu Europe from war. This may be or it mav not. We are in- clined to think the Prime Minister is mistaken, but he' may have information not available to the rest of us. At any rate me league ot JNatlons has not yet recovered from the weak-kneed policy of Britain, France and Canada No league can ever hope to become effective if its members do not stick together. Admitted that a large section of the Canadian people objected to the attitude of Dr. Riddell. and these were nnt the Frehch speaking people of Quebec. According t? all strongest protests came and not from the labor intere there. There was another strong element in he couritiy. that objected to the withdrawal of Dr, Riddell, and Primt Minister Mackenzie King found himself between two strong fires. His attitude seems to have been justified by. me later wean peace .proposal ot Sir Samuel Hoare and Premier Laval which was drooDed under .nrotest from the world 'and particularly .from the British .people. But many gooa sunoorters ot the present Liberal Government will feel that the Prime Minister did not plav the part of the strong leader when he capitulated to the first protest.
