aoe THE DAILY NEWS We have just arranged with one of our clients to place forty-two lots on the market under exceptional advantages to the purchasers. The lots are some of the best in Sections 7 and 8. The prices are as low as any on the market, and the terms so easy—monthly—that any- one can buy. Along with this exceptional offer, each lot admits the purchaser to a drawing for a FREE TRIP ROUND- THE WORLD. If you hold the lucky ticket the trip is yours; or you can surrender it for a cash con- sideration. The chances are good— one in forty-two. Come in and investigate. H.F.McRA AND COMPANY OVER THE CRADLE A little lad is sleeping | In a little trundle bed, While fairies troop about him With dreams for his curly head; The little face is tear-stained, But under his glad eyes Are visions of a pathway That wanders up the skies. His feet among the roses Go dancing in wild glee, He runs among the clover All bright and glad and free; The stars are tor his pillow In golden glory spread— The winds are singing for him— The little curly head. A woman bends above him And breathes a fragrant prayer That leaves a holy beauty Spread like a halo there. “Oh, little lad, sweet pathways Are luring where thou art; But never such a haven As in my mother-heart.” “Oh, little lad from dreaming Run home again to me, Here is the love that needs you, | And here your rest shall be; | My arms grow lonely empty Creep back into your nest, | And let my soul grow peaceful With your fingers at my breast.” a = en j | Mark Twain once said, “In the first place God made idiots. That was for} practice, Then he made school boards.” | That is one cise where second place wins | first prize. If he had lived in Prince Rupert he’d have said city councils. It is just as worthless to die on third base as on first. The boy who reaches the plate counts. THE GIRL WHO SMILES WINS heart, Wife or Mother. one who comes out best in this world. It is she who has lovers and friends, and do for. Her path has few rocks for her to stumble over. The girl with a -frowm on her face may be the best hearted girl in the world, but she handicaps herself at every turn. Mothers teach their daughters no end of useless things with the best intentions in the world, losing sight of the most important study—gentleness of mafiner and the worth of a smile, If they would teach their daugh-- ters the value of curbing a bad tem- per and wearing a smile it would help the girl, to her advantage in after life. A cross nature is all a matter of habit; it can be checked in early girlhood. The pleasant girl is always sought lafter in company, and by men. Not one man in a thousand but who would rather laugh with a girl than sigh with her. The girl who does not possess a sunshiny nature causes those with whom she comes in con- tact to fell unpleasant and discon- tented. It would take a brave man indeed to have the temerity to speak of love or propose marriage to the girl with a frown on her face. The husband who knows from cruel experience that an angry wom- an is waiting for him to make war on him for the veriest trifle, with a face distorted by frowns, naturally turns his steps in any direction save that of home. I do not say that many of these wives have not grave causes for complaint. No doubt they have; but even in the face of every grief or anger they shoud smile through it all as long as they can. If coaxing and tenderness fail to accomplish what they wish they should reason it out that frowns and bitterness will not win it for them. The first lesson in the art af at- tracting is that of learning to smile, The smiling girl is not to be con- founded with the one who arouses antagonism by her simper or giggle. There is a time fo smile, a time when seriousness is called for, as the cloud momentarily drawn over the face of the bright sun. The woman with the warm, sunny disposition responds naturally to these emotions; therefore, there never is a meaningless smile on her face when there should be a tender expression on her counténance and sympathy,in her eyes. The girl not given to smiling should begin at once to correct that defect in her training. Last, but by no means least, it will be found | to be the magnet which wins love }and holds it after it is won. , | ———-—--— 0-—-— | To Masset for Burial. | The remains of the late Daniel | Stanley, who died in the hospital last Friday, were taken over to Masset today in Mr. Henry Edenshaw’s launch for burial. a, BUY COAL STOCK Immense interest is being taken in Northern B.
