The meeting was very enthusiastic and every one felt confident that this year would see a change in the mining situation in Omineca as every sign points to a much in creased activity along those lines. The meettlng also expressed great appreciation of the action of the provincial government in its decision to establish a sampling plant at Prince Rupert arid it is generally considered that this was one of the most Important steps that could be made In the In terests of the small owner and to the prospector who can do some development on his property and be able to sell-'the'we that? he mines. The Canadian National Railway will be asked to undertake at once the establishing of rates on shipments of ore to Prince Rupert irom points along the road so that no delay will be experienced in this matter, when the sampling plant becomes ready to receive ore. Discussion of many matters of business took place and the Chamber went on record as standing ready to co-operate with the deGanahl mining' Interests who are developing gold properties in the Vital Creek area and who are taking in supplies and mall from Smlthers over the Babine trail during the winter, months. This trail is in need of improvements' and the local people want to assist in the matter as far aspossible. Disappointment at the failure of the governments to rebuild the bridge of the Avellng Coal Co. across the Telkwa River was expressed at the meeting. The Avc-.'ilng Coal Co. had built a good bridge a few years ago and then it was hit by another bridge that had been dislodged farther up the river and floated downstream. Since that time these people have carried on in the face of groat Vff'cultles and are mining and shipping coal under a great handi cap for want of the bridge whbh they are not financially able to replace.
