MANY VISIT GIRL GUIDES Enjoyable Time Spent nt Hospital Island, Dodge Cove, lesterday Afternoon by Parents And Friends Under most delightful weather and other conditions a number of parents and friends of the Girl Guides camped at the old isolation hospital at Dodge Cove paid a visit there yesterday, being conveyed across by Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Stephens and Mr. and Mrs. William Kcid in their respective yachts. They were received by Mrs. II. Cameron, who is in charge of the camp and after inspection of the island and the building, a program of sports was arranged with It. Cameron starter and William Brown, W. Held John Bremner and A. J. Squires stewards of the course. Mrs. D. G, Norland, president of the Girl Guides Association, had chargej of the general arrangements for the party. The sports winners were: . Junior girls Ilosic Christiansen, Hetty Pullen. Girls under 14 Bee Ritchie, Zilla Sherman. Girls over M Jean Cameron, Kitty Cameron. Three-legged race Jean and Kitty Cameron, Joan-Squires and Betty Bremner. 1 Human Bpat race Kitty Cameron, Jean Cameron, Joan Squire and Betty Bremner; Betty Borland, Helen Brown, Zilla Sherman; and Frances Koberton. Men's Race I. J. Taylor, William Brown. Ladles' Race Mrs. Pullen, Mrs. Squires Potato race Jean Cameron, Kitty Cameron. Boat Races Boy and Girl Kitty Cameron Ritchie, Norma Squires. Girl's Doubles Amy Winboiirg and Edith Ritchie, Kilty Camei-J on and Joan Squire, Helen Brown and Betty Borland. Following the sports a picnic supper was served on the lawn in front of the building, coffee and tea being Supplied through the courtesy of Mrs. Johansen, who has charge of all the culinary arrangements f6r the camp. Ice cream was served and the visitors returned to the city just in time to get ,out on the tide The visitors expressed themselves as particularly pleased with the arrangements at the cftmp and the beauty pf the spot. The camp was particularly clean and tidy and evidently well conducted. Among the visitors for the day were Patrol Leaders Brewerton and Silversides, neither of whom were able to go into camp with the girls this year on account of other duties. Sea Cadet George A. Greenwood left on board the SS. Prince Robert for the round trep. He Is employed as bridge boy and will represent the Prince Rupert Sea Cadets. This will probably mean that more of the , local Sea Cadets will In future find employment on the C.N.R. Steamships during the summer months. C. N. R. On Friday July 1G, a reception was held in St. Paul's United Church to welcome Rev. and Mrs. F. Bushfield to this district. Rev. J. Whittles of the Anglican Church gave the address of welcome and a program of fine vocal and piano numbers was contributed to by Miss O. Smith, Mrs. G. Saul of Decker-Lake, Mr. J. Brown and Rev. J. Whittles. Community singing was enjoyed and refreshments served by the Ladies' Aid. The church was beautifully decorated with summer flowers of which Burns Lake is justly proud. Saturday afternoon, July 21, the. Elks' Hall was the scene of a successful tea and sale of home cooking by the Ladies' Aid of St. Paul's United Church. Mrs. J. A. Clarke, president, in charge cf arrangements. The guests were welcomed by Mrs. F. Bushfield. The following ladies were in charge of the various booths: Mesdames H. Linton. I). M. Jerow, II. D. McNeil, T. C. Holmes. J. McKenna, W. Ashcroft, J. A. Clarke. Piano selections by Misses 0. Smith and F. Wiltsie were much enjoyed. The profusion of unusually fine flowers made a delightful setting for this event, including sweet peas, pansies, canterbury bells, delphiniums and peonies, as well as several types of poppies, all large and beautiful blooms. A fine crop of Timo Dies At Kitwanga KITWANGA. July 2G: On Friday, July 23rd, Martha Sampare of Kitwanga Reserve passed away after a short Illness. She was laid to rest In the Indian graveyard. A service, conducted by Rev. B. Shearman, ably assisted by J. Ryan, was held In St. Paul's Anglican Church. The chief mourners were Harold and Walter Sinclair, brothers of the deceased. The congregation sang "Safe In The Arms of Jesus." Miriam Washburn sang an Indian translation of a hymn, as a solo, Mrs. Sampare Jr. being at the organ. A short suitable address was given. The flowers were messages of sympathy from many friends. The beautiful casket was made by J. Ryan and his son Philip. There were present several friends from Kltiegukla. Port Essington to take up residence with' her husband at Big Falls, on the Ecstall River. The many friends of Mrs. Smith, v'io was formerly district nurse at Port Essington, will welcome her back in their midst. Rev. and Mrs. J. Fraser of Provincial Police Makes Tour of Northern Police Posts Inspector J. A. Fraser of the Provincial Police returned to the city yesterday on the Princess Alice from McDames Creek and other points where he had been inspecting police posts in northern British Columbia.
