Prince Rupert certainly has nothing to complain about in regard to money voted for this, district.. Another fifty thousand has been allotted to the federal building and fifty, thousand' for the construction of an airport. This is not all that will be coming to this district but it is a good deal and its expenditure should help to make business good, here and give us a start toward better times. Prince Rupert is at last being recognized as an im-. portant centre which will be a vital factor in- the development Of Northern and Central British Columbia. Nearly every country in this part of the world and in Europe has been urged to go to the defence, of the Spanish government against the rebels who are making an. effort to bring the country under Fascist sway. Mostly the people who. advocate this are the people who are. usually in favor of peace. The leader of the socialists, in Canada, J. S. Woodsworth, has declared himself in favor of peace at any price, no matter who is oppressed or who suffers. In this Spanish civil, war it is difficult for-many people to sympathize with either, side. The government is a constitutional one. It was voted into power by a majority of the people of' the country and as such should have been allowed to carry on and administer affairs.. The rebel party representing most of the military and capitalist and Catholic Church groups foresaw the gradual welding of the government into a socialist administration based on the Russian system in which there would be a dictatorshih of the proletariat,, took up arms and expected by a sud-den.cpup.to follow-in. the footsteps of Italy arid Germany. In this, they failed and now the country is. settling down to what looks like a prolonged bloody and bitter struggle in which every inch. of. territory is being contested and neither seems, to be winning. All sorts of' atrocities are claimed for the opponents by each side. Both have their propagandist departments and it is impossible to; fyflipvo the statements made by either. Happily, Canada, is a long way from the scene of action and is not likely to become involved in the struggle.. Most Canadians have little sympathy with, either side., Inquire; Reeardin New Special Rates For Room and Board at R. BRASELL KNOX HOTEL "Banquets a Specialty" Phone 71 ' N. M. BRASELL Opposed to PLAN Junior Chamber, of Commerce Sees Virtue in Some Gropp Proposals But Refuses, to, Have North Side-Tracked The executive oi the Junior Chamber of Commerce, at a meet-lngj last night, went on record as favoring any plan, which.- would tend; to stimulate the tourist traffic of British Columbia including the setting up, of a, special, cabinet portfolio and the getting out of sponsored publicity but. it rejected a projected tourist route as proposed by Gordon Gr.opp of Vancouver which would, provide for a highway eastward from Bella Coola, entirely Ignoring the Prince Rupert and Central British Columbia route. There was considerable discussion in regard to tourist traffic arising out of correspondence from T. W. Warkman, president of the British Columbia Junior Chamber of Commerce, in regard to the Gropp plan. As a result one resolution was passed favoring the Gropp proposal to endeavor to have the provincial government set up a department headed by a cabinet minister designed to stimulate tourist Industry throughout British Columbia. Another resolution favored the establishment of British Columbia Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsored publicity as proposed by Mr4 Gropp, ..A third resolutlo.1 put the local Junior Chamber on record as being unable to support the part of the Gropp tourist plan which would prove -to be of benefit solely to the southern part of the province, tending, indeed, to materially diminish the tourist business Nor thern British Columbia now enjoys, Instead: the Junior Chamber suggests, that the Prince Rupert-. Hazelton. Highway should be completed before the highway eastward-from Bella Coola as suggested by Gropp. Copies of these resolutions will befsent to. Many women get so used to the weekly grind of waihing and ironine they become dulled to the drudgery involved in old-fashioned methods The next time you do the weekly ironing, keep a time record of how many, hours it takes you. Is.it two hours, three, four -or all day or more? No matter whether it is two. hours or the better part of Wo! days, just consider this: An electric ironer will save you two-thirds of the time and' the third you spend will be oh, so much easier than, any ironing you have ever done by hand. And a. modern, electric ironer is;not complicated, either. You learn to use it quickly, it does a fine job, even on fussy, pieces, it co.t. less than. 3c an, hour, and can be bought on, easy, terms. It takes minutes -not hours -to do the entire, ironing. NORTHERN BRITISH COLUMBIA POWER COMPANY LIMITED
