Gordon, better known throughout the country as Ralph Connor, was a Presbyterian minister who preached for many years at Winnipeg to a congregation composed very largely of professors and students from Manitoba College. His sermons had an intellectual quality that distinguished them from the average. They gave the listener credit for a reasonable amount of common sense and brain power. It was not from his preaching, however, that Dr. Gor don became known to the pople of Canada but from his books. They were an interpretation oi life in the com munities in which the Presbyterian Church was a power ful factor.
