16i rotm THE DAILY HSW3 DOWN THE ALLEY News and Views of the Rupert Bowling Front WelJ folks, the season is now in full swing. All the leagues have started and the crash of ball and pin may be plainly heard jbetween the hours of noon. and midnight. Pardon me, ladies and gentlemen, for neglecting to introduce you to -'Red" Young, genial and tourleous manager of the alleys Red's winning smile and charm ate - waking hosts of friends for the ajleys and I know you'll be glad jf jou ''Come down and see him sometime." Hubbledutch Donald was heard several times on Sunday nighty to mutter "Dear me," and "Bles$ my soul." He even said "An shucks" once when he missel an easy spare. "Shame on you "Hubbledutch." The Old Empress 5-Pin team is going to be awfully hard to beat this year. Schriaberg was certainly "going to town'' with the rest of theteam close behind .him iri their opening tilt with the C. N. R. Sonny Stiles finally woke up and managed to roll a couple of good games for the Pioneer Laundry. I heard that Vic Houston threatened to take him (Sonny) down to the plant and run him through the wash machines with a batch of dirty linen if he didn't hit his stride, and boy, it worked. Nel -"Swede" Gunderson is so lucky I It a -wonder he works foi a living. Splits turn into strikes with monotonous regularity. .Must be Stuff pn the ball I guess. j ; -Lin -- ? ; n : 1 : : 3 straight Won't Morin be nleas- !ed when he gets back or won't he? Ollie Franks has been holding out on us. We never suspected he was an adagio dancer till we watched him mentally and physi cally following the flight of his ball down the alley. Ollie sure swings a mean "Bolero." And now for a word about the ladies. I am glad to know they decided to use the handicap sys tem in their league because it helps the weaker teams and keep up the interest in the game right through Ihe .season. The ladies have also adopted the 3 same match, which will be a help, to their game. Mrs. Raybone turned in a nice 227 average for her 3 game ses sion on Tuesday night. The Thursday afternoon free session to the ladies is resulting in many new adherents to the sport, which is growing in popularity to a gratifying extent. Gee, I nearly forgot to tell you about Gibb Taylor and his wif who challenged Vic Houston and his spouse to a game of 10 pins. Mrs. Taylor saved Gibb's bacon by rolling 120, while the best Gibb could do was 133. Boy she sure was rollin' 'em, and was Gibb's face red? You could see his chest slip a good 2 feet. Well friends, I must rush down to the 5 Pin league, so I'll see you there. ALLEY SLOPER COW HAS WOODEN LEG iii mmmm ! I in SPORT CHAT Thq local boys are picturing Stan MpHn up in thp$e World Series stands these days watching his favorite tfew York Yankees with their Murderers' Row taking those luckless Giants into camp. We can Just imagine that things are going Just the way Stan would have them. Four straight for the McCarthy boys would pust about be his pick, we would jSay. There will be no more argent an than Stan among the sixty thousand .or so. And we can look forward to hearing a lot about it around this man's town when the local diamond sage gets home .from his wanderings around the Big Time. A measure of sporting interest will centre on New Westminster tonight with the opening of the Mann Cup finals for the Dominion lacrosse championship between the New Westminster Salmon Bellies, champions of the west, and Orlllia Terriers, .champs of the east. Mann or Minto Cup finals are no new thing for .the old Royal City but the folks there always get worked up about them each time they are staged. They have been having these finals there pretty regularly for the last thirty years and the eastern challengers usually meet with defeat. The Orlllia Terriers stopped at High River, Alberta.j long enough Wednesday night to win an easy 48 to 8 victory there.
