The-groups voting against the proposal all came from the district served by the Turgeon highway which is being built into the Peace, and the member for Cariboo, Mi Turgeon, particularly asked that no resolution, of the kind proposed should be passed at this convention. Vanderhoof,. Prince George and Quesnel all stand to benefit from the highway but the railway, if built west of Vanderhoof, would; possibly divert traffic from the highway, and take it westward. That was not the argument in the debate but it is the one that seems to have influenced some of the delegates. . It was particularly noticeable that everyone west of Vanderhoof voted for the Peace River Railway proposal while those at Vanderhoof and east and south voted against it. PERIOD OF EXPANSION We are just beginning a period of expansion in which the north is going to develop very repidly. Northern and Central British Columbia is sitting on the top of the world with something that the world will want and want badly very soon. Near Prince Rupert is the largest easily available stand of pulp timber suitable for the manufacture of rayon and as yet untouched. Two companies are already interesting themselves in these timber lands with a vieV to commencing- to use them and others will, follow. Very soon there will be plenty of market right in this neighborhood for all the logs near a natural waterway. This; easily available timber will be first to be used and later, that farther back from transportation, facilities will be brought out. In the Interior there are thousands of acres of excel-lentfarm lands that will be occupied by settlers who will produce food supplies for the workers in the mills and minijs. Lands that have been going abegging for occupants will be snapped up and logged off lands will be cleared. The Bulkley and Nechaco valleys that have waited so long for development except in a few of the choicer areas, will become, producing areas in a large way, especially producers of milk nm! hntt ut nnrl Vmf nnrl lino. s-ibly cheese.
