Shaft. Numerous angling parties were out over the Labor Day week-end and, in -the most cases, there was good success. Following the dry week and with fine weather still prevailing, angling conditions were, very good. Leverson Lake, Kh-tada, Klew Nuggett, Red Bluff were among the points visited. Word has-been received in the city of the success of Paddy Palmer of Prince Rupert in passing his examinations at HMS, Victory Signal School of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth, England, with the exceptionally good percentage of 99. He headed the class, the next highest being 87. Before leaving Hall-fax, Paddy had passed his examinations with 93 per cent. A move has been on foot among local halibut boat owners and fishr srmen to have the price of black cod paid by local buyers increased from three to four cents. Nothing definite has yet been done, however, as there has not been a representative enough number of fishermen in town at any of the meetings so far called. Having broken her crankshaft last week while on her way to the fishing grounds, the local halibut boat Sea Maid, Capt. Henry Doiron, is now at Ketchikan awaiting the delivery of a new shaft from San Francisco. Having broken her tallshaft off! Cape Spencer, ,the Seattle halibut boat Yaquina was disabled at the nd of the week. Two members of the crew proceeded in a small boat to get aid and the coastguard cut ter Halda put out to tow in the vessel and four members of the crew. Making her final appearance of the season at this port, C.P.R, steamer Princess Charlotte, Capt. William Palmer, In port Saturday afternoon southbound from Skag-way to Vancouver, had on board a total of 253 passengers of whom four disembarked here. Only one passenger boarded the vessel at this port for the south. There were seventy-four round trip tourists re turning south on the vessel. There were no halibut landings at Prince Rupert Saturday. The only boat in was the Kaien which disposed of 14,000 pounds of black cod to the Canadian Fish & Cold Storage Co. at 3c per pound. Having on board a large list of passengers Including many local and district school teachers return, lng to their duties after the summer vacation, Union steamer Catala, Capt. James Flndlay. arrived In port at 10 o'clock Sunday night irom the south, and sailed at mid-nigh for Stewart,. Anyox and other northern points whence she returned here at 11:15 this morning, leaving at 1 :30 p.m. for the south. The Catala made a special call north. bound at Ocean Falls with school teachers. Pilot Charles Elliott arrived at 5:30 Saturday night with his Waco seaplane from Stewart, bringing in a party of Premier men consisting of J. R. Drysdal'e, J. M. Grey and D. L. Coulter with whom he left early Sunday morning for Lake Khtada on an angling trip over the Labor Day holiday week-end.
