The Japanese, at the same time, announced they were undertaking another thorough, investigation of the incident. The Japanese public has so far been, kept in ignorance of the alleged machine gunning of the Panay as she was sinking after being bombed. Evidence taken at the United I States inquiry indicates that there' could have been no mistake about; I the sinking of the Panay being deliberate. Lieut. Commander J. W.' Yeath of the Panay declared that his conviction. At the Inquiry yesterday he went so far as to assert that the Japanese had fired on refugee-laden boats as they were endeavouring to escape after the sinking.
