It is not much for them to do it may mean a great deal. The meeting will open sharp at 8 'o'clock and should not last more than half an hour. If this is well supported at a mass meeting here it will at least show that we are alive to the situation and in earnest in the desire to have the railway built. It is felt by the committee that this is the right time to recommence the effort to have the Peace outlet built to connect with this port and the meeting is part of the ef- iort mat is to be put lorth with a view to bringing it to their attention. Nothing is quite so grim as a Vancouver beer parlor, says a writer in the Victoria Times. It is like the morning of an execution, with all the prisoners waiting for the hangman. It is more grim even than an Esquimalt beer parlor. In Esquimalt, at least, the boys sometimes get merry and bright. In Vancouver they sit there with a settled gloom, talking about the depression which is sure to follow the present boom. The longer you stay in a Vancouver beer parlor the more confident you become that me present Doom is temporary ana that the next depression, to follow shortly, will be far worse than the last one. The danger of the beer narlor is not that it will undermine the sobriety of the public, but that it will ruin the public morale.
