Phon tf 1 P.O. Boi 1M THE DAILY NTW1 PAUS THRZB The Letter Box FUI.I, OF QUESTIONS Rdilor, Daily News; It was Kood to learn last week that an organization In the city it queptioninjr Commissioner Alder's proposed reorganization of the Fire Department. When Mr. Pattullo was here in May representations were made lo him to have the rire Depart ment brought up to strength to conform with the law with the result that there was a reorganization at thai time. An other re-organization naturally raises questions. Very often re-organizations are pretexts to get rid of undesirable employees, reduce wages, increase hours of work or some such thing detrimental to the worker. Many citizens are wondering what the Commissioner has up his sleeve this time. Many opinions are being ex pressed but, as they are a bit strong for print, I would like to present some questions that or.e hears regarding this matter. Why did the Chief of the Fire Department rt'sign? To retire, because of age? If so, what is the retiring age for City Com missioners? Was the chief inefficient? If so, in what way? Was his position made intoler able because h did not bow the knee to the "powers that be?" Did he get fed up and quit? These questions should be an- iwered and the citizens should demand justice before the present chief leaves the city. Concerning the Fire Department, is re-organization proposed because of inefficiency? What is the propesed work the firemen are to do in and around the fire- hall? Do not the fireman do all work that is required of firemen by law and the underwriters? Why is a chief being imported? Cannot some one in the depart ment be promoted?
