Salmon Packing Season to Get Under Way Next Thursday With Start Of Sockeye Fishing Halibut Prices Higher season than last, Mill Bay on the Naas River, British-American (Port Esslngton) on the Skeena and Bos-well down the coast being closed down although used as camps. The operating canneries this season are: Naas River Arrandale and Wales Island. Skeena River Inverness, Sun-nyside, North Pacific, Casslar, Claxton, Carlisle and Haysport. Central area Butedale, Klemtu and Namu. Bella Coola Tallheo. Rivers Inlet Provincial, Good Hope, Beaver, Wadhams and Goose Bay. Smith's Inlet Margaret Bay. Union steamer Cardena, Capt. John Boden, having been delayed by making extra calls at Rivers Inlet cannery points this trip north, arrived In port at 8:30 this morning from the south and sailed a couple of hours later on her return to Vancouver and waypolnts. The I Cardena brought north a large I number of salmon cannery work-, ers and also had eight round trlp-j pers on board. I Not so many of the larger Am 1 Gillnet salmon fishing gets under way for the canneries in Prince Rupert district on July 1 at 12:01 a.m. with the commencement of the legalized use of sockeye nets. During the past few days sockeye have been seen jumping in waters off the mouth of the Skeena and Naas Rivers, indicating that a fair run may be expected. The top bid for Canadian fish was 8c and 5.5c which' the Gony received for 14,000 pounds and the low 7c and 5.5c which was paid for 8,000 pounds. For American fish the high price of the week was 9c and 6.5c paid the Hi Gill for 14,500 pounds and the low 8.4c and 6.5c which the Prosperity received for 20,000 pounds. Six vessels landed 191,000 pounds of halibut at Seattle yesterday as follows: Yakutat, 39,000 pounds, New England, 9?ic and 8c; Aleutian, 38,000, McCallum, gec and 8c; Arctic. 32,000, Whiz, 9'oC and 8c; Lltuya, 24,000, San Juan, 9c and 8c; Llahona, 40,000, Washington, O'ic and 8c: Nordic, 18,000, Booth, 10c and 8c.
