The dictators of Europe may have felt that the British people were not with Anthony Eden in the .stand he took in ref using to have dealings with them without guarantees tnai iney would keep their word. Now thev must know tfiat they were mistaken. A local enthusiast discussing the situation remarked: : Chamberlain is probably the best man we can have just now but two years from now we shall want Anthony Eden at the head of the government." CANADA'S STATUS At a time t like this it is rather interesting to note that Canada is not bound by anything done by the British government because under her present status, this country advises the King direct m regard to Canadian affairs and the Governor General is not an appointee of the present or any other British Govemment. He represents only the King At the same time the British government keeps Canada informed of all she does just as she keeps Washington informed and France and any other friendly nation This is done through the British High Commissioner at Ottawa. Also the British government often asks an expression of opinion from the Canadian premier. THE TWO HIGHWAYS Last week the Liberals of Pouce Coupe endorsed the efforts of the Pattullo gvernment in pushing through the rurgeon Highway from Vanderhoof towards Finlayi Iorks with a view to connecting with the Peace River i Block. Almost at the same time a Monkman Pass Highway -Association was formed for the purpose of advancing the interests of the Monkman Pass highway connecting Grand Prairie with Prince George by way of Han-i sard. Both of these are worthy projects and both might well be supported by the of sam,e person or group persons. Undoubtedly, both highways will be completed within the1 next few years If Prince Rupert people and the people' of the interior between Prince Rupert and Prince George were as enthusiastic over the highway to connect the interior with Prince Runert we miVht oxnert if fn hn uu oon, but they are not. Hon. Ian Mackenzie seems to be the pnly man who gets things done when he wants them done. If he should decide the road was needed for defense purposes we would probably have it quickly.
