Tilot John Bisson miraculously escaped injury when the plane he was piloting side slipped and plunged a total loss into Lake Savory. The young pilot took off at Smithers with but 12 gallons of gas, the plane being unable to carry a greater load. All went well until his gas grew threateningly low and he was forced to land on the tiny Lake Savory, adjoining McDonald Lake. After refilling, he attempted to take off but, as the lake was too srrall, he was unable to get en-j ough altitude. In order to miss the trees on the shore line, he made a sharp bank. The plane then struck an air current and side-slipped into the lake, land- ding upside down. The pilot was fortunately, able to get out of the cab, and swam ashore. The p'ane was totally destroyed.. The machine had been op-crated in this district in missionary work of the Roman Catholic Church. Alberta Is Not I Giving Relief . , . Total revenues are placed at $516,692,000, the highest In Cana- It Is the nearest Canada ha ever been to a balanced budget In recent years. During the previous jear it was more than $77,000,000. Mr. Dunning pointed out that much better had been done than had been forecast last year when the deficit for the coming year was set at around $35,000,000. This was gratifying in view of the $5,000,000 added to annuities reserve, $20,-000,000 expended on account of te Intensified drought in Western Canada and the Canadian National Railways deficit of $7,000 Wlf It had not been for these, it was clear there would have been an overall surplus, Mr. Dunning said. There had been an Increase of more than $13,000,000 in the net debt. The highlight of the speech was the minister's' comment on monetary reform. He called it a "hoary" fallacy to suppose that governments could pay no interest or issue debt free money. Regarding World economics as they might affect Canada, Mr. Dunning expressed hope that the depression In the United Stales was now scraping the bottom and that remedial measures would bs successful. Total revenues for the year were greater than last year by $62,536,000 and $55,835,000 higher than 1928-29, the previous record year. Taxation, mostly sales, and customs duties furnished $448,652.- 000. Taxation Changes Few The budget removes sales tax from major building materials and otherwise broadens exemptions. ..There is no change in customs tariff or in excise tax. Nor is there any change In individual or corpor- ate incomes. Mr. Dunning warns' of difficulties MAY ORDER IN CANADA British Government Still Considering Manufacture of Aircraft in This Dominion LONDON, June 16: (CP) Proposals for manufacture of aircraft In Canada for the Royal Air Force are still under consideration but no decision has yet been taken, Sir Kingsley Wood, Secretary for Air, told the House of Commons today.
