More certainly, ven than the news columns are they an index of human For so many generations we have been under the tryanny of a philosophy that reared itself on a metaphysical premise that human nature was inherently bad, that in the face of abundant evidence to the contrary some of us are in actual danger of looking on the world A month ago, the World’s Work, published a quite delightful article on the “agony column” in the London Times, tracing out the related messages which passed to and fro in successive issues of the Thunderer; weaving their tales of pathos and comedy and constituting This week, a careful reader of the want-ad column in this paper might have found food for a little homily on the inherent honesty of the Prince Rupert folk. Two advertisements in the Lost and Found section, were appeals to the public to come and claim sums of money which had been picked up on the streets and on the wharf of the city. The man who finds a bunch of keys, or a monkey wrench or some other article, which like Polonius’ good name, is something which enricheth not anyone else but leaves the owner poor indeed ,might in the eyes of the misanthrope be less an honest than an obliging man. But in the case of a man who picks up a purse or a roll of bills, and. straightway advertises the fact, and puts himself about to find the owner, there is no doubt but that he is an honest man and a good But there is still another honest man in our midst whose deeds, He is one of those who is living A reader of the Daily News, on that eventful day when the battle of Kelly's cut was raging, came into the office to inquire if an unstamped letter had been handed in.
