She had an advance gudrd always stirring up trouble in order to give her an excuse to seize more territory. No sooner had she entered Memel than trouble commenced in the Polish corridor. To us in this country it seems childish for these excuses to be accepted as a reason for advancing and bringing pressure to bear on the smaller countries. Nazi rule in Germany was brought about by deception. It has been continued by keeping the people in ignorance of real facts. Chamberlain admits he was deceived at Munich and has given up his policy of consultation with Hitler. It sometimes makes people wonder whether honesty is the best policy when they see duplicity bringing results and countries such as Britain and France and Russia allowing it. SPRING CLEAN-UP SOON It will be time for the annual spring clean-up pretty oon. Prince Rupert will need it this year just as much as in former seasons. We can all point to each other's back yards and feel that the neighbors need the clean-up but some of us are so used to our own needs along the same line that we wade through the mud rather than get busy to improve the place. Prince Rupert has been pointed to as a nice clean city Ix't us all make an effort to maintain that reputation and to keep up with the times by eliminating some of the unsightly places. Every town and city on the coast is improving. What about Prince Rupert? There is no reason why we should not be one of the leaders. ARE WE TOO OLD? Many of the people who came to Prince Rupert in the early days are getting old and some of them are beginning to show signs of decay. Others keep up the good work of city building and are carrying on with only a slight mellowing. There is a young generation growing up, a generation born during or after the war and they are beginning, to make themselves felt. Pretty soon the older men will have to make way for the younger. That is the way of the world. Prince Rupert must keep her manhood virile if she is to succeed. She cannot afford to get old or lag behind ecause of lack of initiative. We seem to be approaching a period of advancement. We can feel it coming. The city is being rejuvenated and all must play their part in seeing that full advantage is taken of the advancement period so that it may continue indefinitely. , The Daily News is a member ot the Canadian Daily! ixuvvajjupei ASbuviuuun, ot tne anauian rress and oi the Audit Bureau of Circulations. It is the only paper north of Vancouver and west of Edmonton holding membership in these organizations.
