A most was spent delightfui afternoon yesterday at the home of Mrs. Holtby, Centre street, where an “at home” was held for the ladies of the Presbyterian congregation living west of Me- Bride street. There was a con- stant stream of guests from early afternoon up to 6 o’¢lock, upward of seventy ladies enjoying the re- ception. Mrs. Arnold, secretary of the Ladies’ Aid, and Mrs. Stork welcomed the guests and did much to make it an occasion of genuine’ enjoyment. Mrs. Naden and Mrs. Tite officiated at the tea table, where they were assisted by a number of the Bethany Girls. From time to time during the afternoon Mrs. Carpenter delighted the guests with some of the sweetest piano selection. The day was com- pleted by about thirty of the young people gathering at Mrs. Holtby’s to have one of the glad- dest and merriest evenings of the season. The hostess received numberless compliments on the splendid success of the day. The city has ordered a new and larger “pepper box” to grind up the filling for the avenues and streets.
