James B. Gibson, dean ot St. Andrew's Cathedral, yesterday in a seasonal addre&s before the Prince Rupert Gyro Club at its regular weekly luniiheon. This waa the season, said the Dean, for all differences to be forgotten religious, racial or whatever they might be in observing the festival of the Christ Child in the manger. Until the goodwill which was implied by Christmas was practised all the i year around and by all men there would be no real peace. " The Dean spoke InteresUnelv on customs and traditions associated with the observance of Christmas. He referred to the fact that December 25 was not really the anniversary of the birth of the Founder of the Faith. The real date was January 6 but a change had been made In the date by Pope Julius in the three hundredth century and the western world had since observed December 25. Dean Gibson related the legend of Santa Claus St. Nicholas, the Christmas stocking and the Christmas tree. He also told of the institution of carol singing and described certain medieval customs of Yuletide observance. W. M. Watt, president of the club, was In the chair and extended the appreciation of listeners to Dean Olbson for his address OuesU were Cyril Kellett of Prince Rupert, M. H. McLean of Port Edward and Ralph Foote of Chicago.
