Family shoe store ltD. The Home of Good Shoes THE DAILY NEWS. PRJMCE RPPERT - BRITISU COLUMBIA Published Every Afternoon, Except Sunday, by Prince Rupert Dally News, Limited, Third Avenue H. P. PULLEN Managing-Editor DAILY EDJTION Member of Audit Bureau ot Circulatioxu Tuesday. October 31, 1931. EDITORIALS I. ; HALLOWE'EN This evening is Hallowe'en, the evening before the fpnst nf All Hallows or All Saints Day. It is an occasion when many young anr pld-give parties of a distinctive nature and some few become mischievous, pretend to. be ghbsts and frighten people. In this city it seems to be a custom for youngsters to call on their neighbors and ask for apples; candies or peanuts. Unuirtunateij, there are a few boys who think fun consists in damaging their neighbors' property. However the real manly boys do not do that kind of thing. Fun is fun and all enjoy 'it but injuring property is not fun. For protection against low-minded boys who have ft perverted sense of humor the police will be very active this evening. They will be all over the city, especially at points where boys are likely to be a nuisance. We hope the police will find nothing to do. Value of apples ! Apples provide an important diet for most pedple. The ok saying "An Apple a day keeps the doctor away1' is as true today as ever it was. Apples are grown in British Columbia and, for that reason alone, should be used as far as possible. Very few are imported. Owing to the war export of apples has been restricted so it becomes somewhat pf a duty to use aj many as possible. Prince Rupert people consupie a considerable share of the crop but, possjbjy, tjieymip)? take mgre. Prices are reasonable and quality is good . SUPPRESSING FACTS The German government is trying to fool the pfiqpl-of that country by suppressing facts. The latest xampj wa the suppression of the Pope's encyclical by refusinf-to allow it lo be read in the Catholic churches. It is by r policy of lying and subterfuge that the Gernan pepplt have' been kidded along. Added to tjiat has been the system qf ferrorjatjon Jjy use of the secret pohce and cpnr centratipn camps. And yet it seems that there are still a few jieople in Canada that refuse to co-operate wholeheartedly with the government of Canada in t.akjng par in a war designed to bring about .a better cqndjtjon .qf af fairs. It is difficult tq yniierstand that attitude. However, the great ma.$s pf the people, including the French Canadians oi Quehep, are with the admipistratjpn. -re French Canadians have shown )t by voting 4QWn thp J)u? plessis government ip Quebec and also by flocking to the coqis when they yprp given the opportunity to enlist fp.r spryjee overseas.
