EVERYTHING WONDERFUL Yesterday was not a wonderful day for the clouds were heavy and now and then a little drizil-inr rain fell, yet it delighted at least one newspaper woman from Lotf Angeles. She expressed herself as delighted with the climate, delighted with the gardens, enthralled by the wonderful color everywhere in the city. She exuded enthusiasm and saw beauty everywhere. Everything was wonderful. And then half an hour later the opinion was expressed by a Prince Rupert resident that the climate was "rotten," the gardens this year were decidedly "off color" and it was about the worst summer the city had had since it became a city thirty years ago. He wondered why toumts would want to come to this part of the country and in fact re rather wished they would keep out. In the meantime, some of the Prince Rupert merchants took in considerable cash from the visiting tourists and they feci it rather gratifying to be able to . make a few dollars at a time when every dollar counts. During the heat of a campaign there is a tendency for people to take rumor as fact and to pass it on as such. Every party, it seems, is guilty of this but mostly the other party, the one to which we do not belong. Naturally what our party says is fact and what the other party sajs is false. To all political parties Me suggest moderation and care but our suggestion will not affect what is done. Facts will be distorted as they have been in the past and especially by the parlies to which we do not belong. QUESTION OF SPEED On this coast we do not seem to be in a hurry. We all take our time and, as with the natives, tomorrow is just as good as today. To illustrate the point, a letter was received gy a member of the Prince Rupert staff this week from England. The letter took longer to come from Vancouver to Prince Rupert than it did to travel from England to Vancouver. We accept this situation as perfectly natural and do not worry. Speed does not mean much to us. i I 5 , Cold Storage I Ltd. LABOR DAY SPORTS OFF Trades and Labor Council Decides One-Sided Came Yesterday in Jun-Xot To Have Celebration In lor Softball League View Of Laek of Interest WESTVIEW Junior boys won a The Prince Rupert Trade and one-sided game from Acropolis In Labor Council, at 1U regular the Gyro Softball league vesterdav monthly meeting on Thursday night, decided not to hold the cm- tomary Labor Day celebration this year. The council has taken thla step for several reasons. One reas- on Is that the council considers sport in the city is at a standstill. Others are that various organisations and companies see fit to take people out of town on Labor Day and. that the citizen do not appear to be Interested In Labor Day sports for children. It was made clear that the council did not seek in any way to curtail the pnjoyment of others in any direction they saw fit but. In view of the lack of interest. It seemed but a waste of Ume and effort to arrange for a Labor Day celebration. Members of the Trades and Labor Council will pay their respects 'o deceased members by visiting Falrvlew Cemetery on Labor Day mornlne. Baseball Scores American League New York 9. Philadelphia 5.
