EDITORIALS FORD'S REFUSAL Most Canadians will share the resentment of those members of Parliament, who spoke in the House yester day on the refusal of Henry Ford to make airplane en-j I pines for Great Britain. The difficulty ip that, while there ! is a firm in Canada bearing the Ford name and making the Ford cars, this firm is owned by thousands of Canadians as well as by the parent company. Also, as the minister of supply stated in the House, the Ford Company of Canada is engaged in war work-in Canada. The Canadian government could insist that the Ford Company of Canada make the engines needed but it has no power over the American company. Injuring the Ford Company of Canada would hold up the war work going forward at Windsor. KEEP JOBS FOR SOLDIERS Men who wish to enlist in any branch of the Canadian army or navy should have their jobs secured for them if they wish to return when the war is over. They have a right to demand this. It is possible that the government might well make this a condition of enlistment. Most Canadian firms will make it clear to their employees that they can return when the fierhtimr is finished.
