June 8, 1940. EDITORIALS '"" " " RUMOR IS RIFE It is at times like this that rumors get eoine at the least provocation. The radio recounts rumors heard in Europe and sometimes gives them as facts. Propaganda is sent out by everybody but especially by the Germans, some of it. true but most of it untrue. The art is to. so mix up truth and falsehood that the falsehood is ingeniously disguised. Take Prince Rupert affairs and we find a somewhat similar condition existing. There are all sorts of rumors going the rounds in regard to citizens of other than British origin, most of which are not true. Most of these people would be glad to help the Allies if they knew what! to do. rhey have sworn allegiance to the British crown and are true to their oath. While living here they have enjoyed all the benefits of British citizenship and appreciate it. Most of the stories told around town in regard to them have been found to be groundless. HOLDING FAST The French and British lines in France seem to bo holding out against the Germans and, as has been point-ed out often, holdine means winning in this ease.
