SALVATION ARMY A drive is about to be made to raise money for the Salvation Army to enable it to give service to the men at the front Canadians will soon be there and this is one way in which we can help look after their comfort. It is a nation wide effort. Those who took part in the last war will realize how valuable to the troops was the Salvation Army. The service they gave were valued above all others. It was outstanding. Preparations are already made for continua tion of this work. While it is their work it is our work too. The Salvation Army is acting for lis' all in Ws splendid service and we commend it to the careful consideration of all Canadians. CONSCRIPTION Conscription is a method by which every man in Canada of war service age is called upon to give one, two or three years of service in defence of the country in which he lives. It seems to be the only fair method of dividing up the work. However, there are many who obiect to and for that reason the present government, with the full support of the Liberal members, have agreed tnat durine the life of the administration there will be no conscription in Canada. They take the view that it is not necessary and that the-service of the Empire can best be carried out without compelling anv one to serve in the army. This will appeal very strongly to the people of the province of Quebec where the French-Canadian people feel very strongly against being forced into anv war. "Vet the French-Canadians are said to be enlisting freely. UNION STEAMSHIPS LTD. Steamers Leave Prime Rupert for Vancouver: T.S.S. CATALA EVERY TCES- T.S.S.
