Ilsley in His Budget Today OTTAWA, April 29: (CD-Giving details of sharp personal income and national defence Increases in his budget today, Hon. J. L. Ilsley, minister of flnaneer-ahnounced that new graduated rates of income tax would start at fifteen per cent on the first $1000, Increasing by five per cent on each additional $1000. The national defence tax Is Increased as from July 1 from three per cent to seven per cent and from two per cent to five per cent. The defence tax minimum exemption is raised from SC00 to $660 and exemption for dependents is increased from $8 to $20. The instalment income tax payment principle is to be extended next year and the due date is changed from April 30 to March 31. Exemptions for gifts to charitable organizations are cut from fifty per cent t0 ten per cent. New surtax of four per cent on investment Income and present surtax are to be absorbed in the new rales.
