War Savings Campaign The war savings campaign in Prince Rupert is now on the last lap. Some of the canvassers have reported quite gratifying results. With others it has not heen so good. However, the anticipation is that the final count will show that results will lie no discredit to the city. As usual, various subterfuges have been found to evade commitment to the war Havings idea. Unfortunately, there is an idea among some that, bv buying war savings certificates, one is doing the government a great favor. With a few, evidently, there is even a feeling that to refuse to war save will embarrass the government. inere hep to ne a lack ot appreciation of the idea ""' unaicaies, a person is actually building up for the future saving money at a good rate of interest and is i ther!hv ther!hv hnpfitf honpfitf 7 mrr I'eonle who 'hnvo. ihr tend to the government to fight the war should reflect that the government has the power to and, if less painful methods fail, may be forced to extract the money from the .people by taxation in which case there will be no returning the principal, let alone paying interest. And, no matter what happens, war savings certificates Will, in the long run, be worth as much as one's dollar bills 6r money m the bank. . We can see no sound reason for people who are at all able to do so not to invest in such securities. And for many it may prove a Godsend in the future if they even sacrifice iow to save.
