This is America's creat annual holiday, the day that corresponds somewhat with Dominion Dav in Canada. It is the day which the United States became a nation. Never before or since was there a-nation with as many problems to solve which started out with such high aims and aspirations and achieved so much. We may not -lUte their political methods, their racial remedies or many ff, .(other of their ways of doing things, but there is so much to admire that we hardly see the weaknesses. We realize sgtnat on the whole the American people are more luce our -selves: than any other people in the world, not excepting even the country from which most of us sprung. ' There is an organization in existence which is trying to bring about a political union of the British and Ameri can peoples. Also there is the most friendly feeling existing between Canada and the United States. So friendly are we that -we are giving rights and rrrdiege.s to pur .neighbors -winch our fathers vjuld noUhave dreamt of Riving. Position Of China - - : China has decided to throw in her lot with Russia, Great Britain and United States in this war . and in doing so declares her solidarity with the more democratic na !tions. China has been fighting a long war with Japan 'arid it is to be presumed that she will continue to do so. : Some of the Chinese cities are to day controlled by the . Japanese to a certain extent but the mass of the country is almost as independent of Japan as ever it was. Occasionally the Japanese get savage with Chiang Kal Shek and 'tries intensive bombing of some centre. They kill a few people just as Germany occassionally kills a few British people but that does not win the war. The Chinese expect very soon to be in a position to drive the Japanese out of the country altogether. They will do it even if it takes several years more of fighting. But they do not expect to have to fight that long. They say the invaders are getting weaker, getting tired "of having to take and retake the same places, again and again. In other words the Chinese refuse to be beaten. German Claims Our experience with Germany and the weird stories she has told about victories over the Britisli should he sufficient to enlighten us as to the stories she'-is now telling about her victories over the Russians. The difficulty is that so many times in the past the reality has caught up ,with the stories. In other words Goebbels is always we 1 ahead of the army. But, except in the case of England. tuc ax iuy iiars iiiiinagtju to eaten tip.
