Davis, Mary Astor and George i Brent in leading roles, comes to 1 the screen of the Canito! Theatre : here as the feature offering for Monday and Tuesday of nextj week. Miss Davis plays a completely sympathetic role in "The Great Lie," being a wholesome American girl In contrast to some of the murky parts she has played In other pictures. There Is drama at tached to her role but lt concerns romance not of any sinister type. The story starts in New York after the "party" marriage of Brent and Mist Astor who Is a temperamental concert artist. Miss Davis is the girl down in Maryland to whom Brent soon turns back. Matters are complfcated, however, when it is found that the wife is to have a child. The husband leaves on a government expedition which a few weeks later is reported lost. The two women come together and agree that the child of the one , shall be given to the other. The agreement is con- sumated and then comes news that Brent has been found. There Is a happy reunion ending in true happiness and eliminating the shadow of the "great lie." Lucile Watson and Hattle Mc-Daniel are important members of the supporting cast. j Shower Foi Miss Boddie j A delightful miscellaneous show-jer was held at the home of Mrs. !H. P.
