The climb was an even more thrilling and difficult one than had been anticipated, said Dr. Carter who appeared to be quite proud of the achievement. The peak of the Seven Sisters is 9150 feet above sea level, the climb being actually 8650 feet since Cedar-vale, the starting point, is at an altitude of 500 feet. Base camp was at the old D. W. Mines Limited property, up the mountain 4100 feet. The final ascent took eleven and a half hours from there up and eight hours down. It started at 6 o'cclock last Monday morning and return was made about midnight that night. The climb was made by Dr. and Mrs. Carter, George Baker and Jack Cade. The two Carter boys. David and Bruce, remained at the base camp. So far as could be observed, said Dr. Carter, the Seven Sisters had never been scaled before. The Idea of the units resulted when Col. R. W. Fennel took ten little tots from one of the worst- bombed East End districts to Wy-; tham Abbey, near Oxford. London authorities worrying about some 45,000 "under fives" look to similar evacuations to private country! homes where trained nurses might ".are for the babies. In the country areas to which pld-r children have been taken, the iroblem of obtaining school rooms s becoming more and more difficult. Many schools are being used o house evacuees and persons who have been bombed out.
