All rights ol republication of special deBoatohes therein are also reserved A magazine comment suggests that President Roosevelt is worried over the apparent apathy of the people of the United States toward the war. Yet a recent visitor from the Pacific coast states as his opinion that the people in his part of the country are not the least excited but are ready and determined in case it becomes necessary for. that country to take an active part in the war. The west may not be a sign of what the middle east Comedies Badly Needed In view of the war strain and the need of relaxation comedies are badly needed. The local theatre is doing a good deal to fill the need but it is doubtful if that is enough. Humor is badly needed. We do not laugh anvthing like enough. Word comes from Hollywood that this need is being recognized by the movie magnate and that comedies are on the way. We hope they do not arrive too late to benefit the people. Canadians Moving Over - - - In spite of the criticism we sometimes hear of the Federal government in connection with the war work, it will be noted that Canadian troops are still moving overseas in considerable numbers. It is announced that the third division of the Canadian army overseas is now almost complete. This seems like a fairly good record when the air iorce, the navy and other parts of the Canadian forces overseas are considered. Gambling At Circus A correspondent draws attention to the gambling at the circus She is undoubtedly right when she says that young children should not be allowed to play the gamblintr games, hor the carnival we are inclined-to wink at such lapses because the proceeds go to a good cause but we see no good reason why we should allow an outside concern to come to the city and break the laws' which local people are supposed to observe. 1 It's interesting to know when reading the Daily Newsl"11 that the people of the whole district arc s doine doing the the same.
