Heroism

MarJorie
Stepnall,
matron
of
the
Royal
Eye
Hospital,
.saved
the
hospital
and
staff
when
it
was
bombed
in
a
heavy
raid
on
London
last
May.
Miss
'Stepnall
has
just
been
honored
by
citation
as
a
member
of
the
order
of
the
British
Empire.
She
directed
operations
of
the
fire
fighting
party
from
an
iron
bridge
until
it
was
demolished
by
high
explosives.
Though
Injured
she
managed
to
extricate
herself
from
the
debris.
Then
she
dragged
her
car
from
the
blazing
garage
and
salvaged
hospital
equipment.
Despite
danger
of
falling
walls
she
entered
the
hospital
frequenUy.

when
every
patient
was
comfortably
resettled
