Mr. Rife was out on the Irack at the time as the train was held up by a broken draw-bar. He wsu observed to fall by some of the :ram crew who thought that he lad slipped. When he did not rise, hey immediately went to his aid mt he had passed away. Mr. Rife had resided In Smithers 'or many years and had raised his family here. He was a member of Omlneca Lodge, A. F. ii A. M., at Smithers and had always been prominent in local Masonic work.
