"The Home of Good Shoes" ACTIVITIES OF Y.M.C.A. AND Y.W.C.A. By DOROTHY GARBUTT, Hostess In the rush of Christmas and what not I seem to have forgotten all about our vital statistics while all the time they have been vital statisticklng along and nobody paying any attention to them ex cept, of course, the proud mothers and fathers, grandparents, uncles and aunts. The worst of it Is I've forgotten to keep a list of these events and must only call them up from a very poor memory- I wish you parents would help me along by leaving a note on my desk with the name of the baby and birth date. At any rate here they are ?J"SX .ri ? Rose of the Whltely Air Force ap peared on the scene. Then far off in Winnipeg in' November little Darlene Blowes arrived. She is of local interest because her daddy has been with a Manitoba regiment here. I wonder if shell take. after Dad and be musically in clined? Another young lady what a field day for girls to arrive was little Miss Bichard on the day after Christmas. Her father is Sergeant Major Bichard of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps stationed at the Military Hospital in Prince Rupert but the little lady chose Vernon as her birthplace. Just to teach him early in life that it's "ladies firsf'I mention that young husky Bill Martin of the Navy last. He made his entrance on December 18 in the Prince Rupert General Hospital. So you see our service men are not letting their country down. Con gratulations all proud parents! One of the most unexpected and nicest things that happened to me this Christmas were the num ber of greetings I received from service people who have left here. To mention a few at random Mrs Lawes and Mrs. Phllpott who were up here last year with the Scotties. Percy Poulton and Douglas Swan, telegraphists in the Navy, Nick Barras, leading stoker in the Navy, "who distinguished himself one night last year by falling off the Ocean Dock and swimming around until he was rescued, Peter Watt, also a telegraphist, and Les Page now on a destroyer on the East Coast, and Wilf "Whitey" Whitehouse. Corbett, former world's heavyweight boxing champion, up to the time he won the title from John L. Sullivan in New Orleans In 1892, drew large crowds to the Capltoi Theatre yesterday afternoon and last night and is being repeated this afternoon and evening. Brrol Flynn is well cast as Cor bett, the San Francisco bank clerk who became world champion, al tuates posstbly somewhat undul, an egotistical streak in "Gentle man Jim's" make-up. There is plenty of ring action and some of the famous fights which led up to the Sullivan-Corbett title fight are portrayed, all of which is of parti cular interest to those who have a flair for the fight game. Romance and comedy are well worked into the story. Alexis Smith has the romantic lead opposite Flynn. Jack Carson Is the fellow bank clerk who was associated with Corbett throughout his fight career. Alan Hale has the principal comedy part as the cabby father of the Corbett family. Ward Bond ably portrays John L. Sullivan.
