Radio reception conditions are getting pretty bad in Prince Rupert again. Listeners tell of an evident wire less transmission signal which has been causing a good deal of disturbance lately. Some people who have been used to getting certain broadcasts around breakfast time and about noon say they are being almost completely blocked off now as far as receiving is concerned. We are not suggesting that wireless transmission of essential character, be it for war or commercial purposes, should have to give right of way to private radio reception. We do believe, however, that, if anything could be done in a fairly simple or reasonable way so as to make a mini mum of interference for the ordinary radio listener, it should be done. The radio is becoming a utility as well as a comfort to an increasing number of people and these people have a right to some consideration. Prince Rupert folk have been very patient in this matter, we should say. Vi And who would have ever thought a few years V: ago. that Prince Rupert some day might have to consider hiring a rain-maker? Daily News The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God, in it thou shalt do no manner of work . . ." Having waited in vain for a Ions time to see a protest from some ab.e. pen than mine against compulsory Sunday labor, I feel It Is my duty, as a Christian who believes that we must live according to God's laws, to write against this practice. t Thpre :s a 'Lord's Day Act" on THE DAILY NEWS our statute books, based upon the Fourth Commandment, yet we; have the government ordering a seven day week. Has the "Lord's Day Act" been repealed? It is a well-known fact that more and better work will be accomplished in a six-day week wtth one day for rest Van by working seven straight days. This to animals and machinery as well as to man-power. The war Is admittedly bdmg fought, on our part, to maisA-tn Christian civilisation and freedom and to destroy the evil in the world and the rut hies Goealnaon of evil dictators. Can we ever hope to d-t this evil by the employ- t of wrons methods? Of what use are prayers Ood's help if we continue to brek His commandments? Our prayers, unUl we put God's laws back tate practice, are only a farce and a mockery and we shall continue to suffer defeats and reverse which have followed us consistently ever since this war began. By signing a voucher at your grocers, adequate sugar may be purchased, but thll additional sugar is for preserving and canning only. (Ask your grocer he has the forms and all particulars.) IS it required that sugar purchases be tied to fruit purchases? NO. You may grow the fruit, collect wild fruit, have fruit as a gift, or buy it from ANY. retailer. In any case you arc entitled to the sugar required to preserve it. WHY, if sugar is rationed, docs the Government make extra sugar available for this purpose? THERE are four reasons why home canning and preserving is encouraged. ,1. When fruit is fresh it is perishable. If it is not preserved it may be wasted and valu- able food reserves lost. 2. Home canned and preserved fruits are particularly valuable from the standpoint of nutrition. Such preserves will help maintain the proper food supply of the Nation, especially when fresh fruits arc out of season and not available. 3. Home preserving helps supplement the restricted commercial canning. 4. Canning done at home eliminates delivery and distribution costs, and thereby saves essential labour, gasoline and rubber.
