It is not enough for British Columbia, and Prince Rupert in particular, to merely do her share in Canada's second Victory Loan. We must provide leadership for the whole of Canada. Those who are complacent should realize that Prince Rupert is only 3815 miles from ' Japan. If that seems a long way off, let them reflect that Pearl Harbor is 3380 miles from Japan only 435 miles less. And we all know what happened at Pearl Harbor. Japanese submarines are operating off the California coast. We are in one of the front lines of conflict and, if we are complacent, how can we expect the rest of Canada particularly the areas snuggling behind the Rockies to be otherwise? That, is why we must set the pace because, if we are half-hearted, other parts of Can- ad may lag also. In the first Victory Loan, last year, less than one person in four who owned a savings account purchased a bond. Savings deposits dropped only 15 percent. Two out of every three orders were for $50 bonds. While, to many people, the purchase of a $50 bond meant a maximum subcription many bought $50 bonds who could have afforded much more. Many people fail to realize that their money is merely invested, that it produces interest and returns to them at maturity. It is a loan, not a gift. People must buy and bigger orders must be received from those who buy. The situation is far too serious for lip service to our country's need. We cannot beat Hitler with slogans or bunting. But we CAN beat him with tanks, ships and guns. 43 v-v : 3 f 4 r .'.' 4- rf ; , AW - , if , I ,tl A I Must BUY Victory Bonds I NORTHERN FISHERMEN'S COLD STORAGE ' t J. H. CARSON CO.
