We Should Spotlight Ourselves . . . Many intelligent men and women throw stones at ad vertising: they aver that advertising adds to the price of the advertised products bought by them. On the surface it may appear to be true that advertising adds to the consumer price of advertised products. Yet the consumer nrice would not be less if thev were not advprMsprl. ftn rVin a - vB a a VasVc contrary, it might be higher. This statement is capable of abundant proof. Where many go astray is in assuming that a product's sales could be raised to and held at peak levels without advertising. Yet reflection and experience should inform them that what goes out of sight is likely to be forgotten, and that the competitive product which is kept in public view replaces it, in the favor of consumers. Pears' Soap is an illustration of this fact. It has gone off the market. Lux has replaced it for Lux is heavily advertised. What we want imperatively has to be paid for with actual money. If we want social acceptance in large measure, we get it with money by dressing well; by the liberal use of cosmetics and toiletries; by attracting attention ourselves when in the company of others, by a variety of money-costing ways;s'by entertaining, and by going where we shall be seen. In other words, we must spotlight ourselves, and spotlighting costs real money. t It is. not economy to be parsimonious and miserly. a nis is irue in respect 01 our education, our social aspira tions. our vocational advancement' trim nlcn nf mnn factoring industry and of retailing; also of communities which want more industries, more retail trade, more visitors, and more population. We want you to look below the surface in regard to this matter of advertising. Deep seeing will persuade you that advertising can be real economy. i SCORING FIVE PINS Individual scoring in the Five Pin Bowling League Monday night ( was a? follows: Albtrt & .McCaffery 1 2 3 Bach 119 183 Ml Regular 160 3M 147 Cymbal lt 216 996 Tally m W m Low Score 118 141 160 Handicap Ill Totals 790 1031 937 Chinese .
