October 20, 1942 EDITORIAL The war news has not been particularly bright for' our side these last few days but, as we overheard one of our old friends remark as she read our bulletin board, "it's still a long, long way to Tipperary for Adolf." Yes, the enemy has made some remarkable gains and probably he will make some more. He may even come un-l pleasantly closer to us right here before he is through but the closer he comes the easier he is to get at. Today he is still carrying the fight but, by that very fact, is weakening while we, with out greatly developing resources, steadily gain strength not only for defence but for the offensive which must come from us not on one, not on two but on many fronts. Yes, the war news is none too rosy these days but, to be sure, we have not been tested yet. Even the little parade we saw here on Saturday afternoon as we opened our Victory Loan campaign was reassuring. One of these days Mr. Jap or Mr. .Nazi will stick his neck out too far and get a bad biting. It's a "long way" yet for our Amusement interests, already established here locally, have, we are assured, taken all ste"ps" possible towards the establishment of a second theatre but have struck the stumbling block of failure to obtain a building priority permit for the project. There is the situation, on the one hand, of the military authorities pressing for a new theatre here while another department of government refuses to give its sanction. Canadian theatres are pegged definitely in the nonessential field. That may be all well and good in the most of Canadian communities. The case of Prince Rupert, however, we should say is different than practically any other point in Canada. Under present conditions, the town would be definitely better off with another place like this for the large element of footloose people service men and war workers now here. In this theatre matter, we feel that the government would be well justified in making an exception of Prince Rupert even against the non-essentiality ruling. Under tne circumstances, it does not seem fitting that the project should be blocked from that quarter. There would, doubtless, be difficulties enough even after the priority permit was granted. . - - -X a -a -H - WORK SAVE LEW UiiiiLiiil' R Buy Victory Bonds KAIEN HARDWARE A stamp's a bullet, a bond's a gun, Buy them both till the war is won.
