If f m riai two THE DAILY NEWS MONDAY, OCTOBER Prince Rupert Inaugurates Its Victory Loan Campaign Hitler and Hirohito have Great Plans for Canada Ye, all Canada's great resource ... her wheat fields, her forests, her factories could be put to wonderful use by the ruth-lesf bully-boys from Germany, by the polite little savage from Japan. And Canada's boundless acres would provide plenty of living room ... for the Germans and the Japs. But what of the Canadians? The answer Is simple when you think what happened and is still happening to the Poles, the Greeks, the Yugo-Slavs and all the others ... In terms of slow starvation, slave labor, mass executions. Every time a hard-working Canadian man or woman buys a Victory Bond, the plans of Hitler and Hirohito receive a set-back. The more you save and lend . . . the more certain you help make it that our enemies shall never put their greedy claws on Canada. NOmNG MATKRS HOW 6ut- II Watts & Nickerson VICTORY BONDS S.E. Urges Support of Loan In his address urging support of the Victory Loan, Mr. Wootten referred to the tremendous amounts of money it was necessary for Canada to raise in fighting the war part of it by increased taxes and the balance by loan, It. was becoming essential for Canadians to accept a lower .standard of living that they might loan to the government. All unnecessary expenditures should be cut down In order to buy bonds, an investment that would be pa.d back. The present loan was for $700,000,000 whereas the savings banks of the country today contained $2,7000000, There should be np hesitation in buying bonds whirl) bore interest, were negotiable and which could be borrowed upon a the banks up to ninety percent When one considered the sacrifices which service men were making it was little enough for Canadians to do to loan their money under such attractive conditions. "Let them not fall because we falter" might be a fitting motto for the campaign. Mr. Wootten took opportunity to thank the management of the Capitol Theatre and the artists on the program. A feature of the evening's proceedings was the drawing for a $50 victory bond, the winner being City Commissioner D. J Math- : eson with ticket No. 34. j Members of the local Red Crcvj usherettes.
