During the week ending yesterday landings totalled 778.500 pounds including 277,500 pounds from Canadian vessels and 501,000 pounds from American. Prices, which are averaging almost 50 per cent higher this year than 1942, were as strong as ever during the week. The top price for Canadian fish was 22.5c and 18c which the Sea Maid and Dollina received for catches of 8,000 and 9,000 pounds respectively and the low 19.1c and 17c which the Rio Rita and the Bug were paid for 3,500 and 2,500 pounds respectively. For American fish the high price of the week was 22.2c and 18c paid the Betty for 19,000 pounds and the low 18.2c and 17c received by the Atlantic for 31,000 pounds. The Canadian total this year to date is 1,919,200 pounds as compared .with 1,392,300 pounds last year while the American aggregate is 2,150,- very large. 'Fisherman reported a good deal of trouble with seals chewing up the.fish after they are caught In the gill nets. . There Is normal activity now in the taking out of all gill netting licences for the season. The Dominion Fisheries oillce reported some 125 licences so far taken out for the Skeena River and seventy-five for the Naas. With the normal number of licences for the season on the Skeena about 850 and on the Naas 450, it is anticipated there will be the usual rush for licences during the few days prior to June 27 at 6 p.m. when the season opens for fishing with sockeye nets. Otto Young, formerly of the local fishermen's experimental station, left Thursday night on his return to Vancouver.
