Feb. 11 After several clays of intensive curling the annual foonsplel of the Smithcrs Curling Club came to an end on Monday evening at midnight when the Pete Eby rink, skipped by Clarence Hlckenbotham, defeated the Elliott rink in the finals of the competition for the Bulkley Valley Collieries Shield. Thirteen rinks, including the Prince Rupert rink skipped by J. L. McEwen, and the rink from Woodcock, skipped by the redoubt able Billy Little, took part in the contest and there were three com petitions, these being for the Im perial Oil Cup and the Bulkley Valley Collieries Shield, while the losers in the first game In these two competitions fought It out in the consolation contest. The Bob Elliott rink, in which Mrs. K. Latimer made a very able I vlce-fiklp, went through to the finals In both the cup and the shield competitions without a loss. The Wiggs O'Neill rink was the runner-up in the cup finals with the Elliott rink and in the playoffs O'Neill won quite handily thus taking the Imperial Oil Cup Into custody for a year. The Bulkley Valley Collieries Shield is a new presentation and this Is the first year that It has been played for. Elliott and Eby emerged into the finals in this contest and the Eby rink came out winner. In the consolation competition the T. A. Simpson rink and the rink skipped by Bob Davidson came to grips in the finals and It proved to be one of the most Interesting games in the whole series. The play was close all the way through and tied on several occasions but the Simpson rink won by a score of 9 to 8 on the last stone thrown. The Ice was in good condition throughout and a large number of spectators visited the curling rink from time to time during the three days and evenings that the games were in progress. The regular tournaments for the Hanson Cup and the E. T. Kenney Cup which were suspended during the bonspiel will be resumed imme diately.
