There is also a move, it is said, to lift the fishing quotas this without restriction. There opposition to this in certain uniiKeiy mat sucn a drastic change in policy would be permitted now after so many years and so much money and effort has been expended towards the conserving of the fishery It should be emphasized that there is no official foundation for such discussion. No announcement has yet been made in regard to 1913 halibut regulations. a Dr'. Neal Carter, director of the fisheries experimental station, formerly situated here and moved last year to Vancouver, left Vancouver last week for Ottawa to attend the annual meeting of the w Fisheries Research Board of Canada. John Dybhavn of thi I 1 I the same meet: The Pacific Fisheries Experimental Station, formerly situated here and moved a few months ago to Vancouver because of being crowded off the local waterfront by the navy, has now opened up in its permanent new quarters In a building on Richards Street at the corner of Smythe Street in Vancouver The premises, formerly occupied by the Coca Cola Company, underwent considerable alterations and renovation before being taken over' by the station. Whenever Capt. Edward Gray, master of the steamer Prince George, passes Green Island Just to the north of Dundas and near the southern extremity of the Alaskan Panhandle, he is reminded of his early days at sea. Near there is Bristol Rock named because that year and permit fishing would, however, be strong quarters and it is considered is the point where the old steamer Bristol stranded and sank near the turn of the century. It was on the Bristol that Capt. Gray started his marine career on running away to sea. The Bristol was originally named the City of Valparaiso and later the Costa Rica. She was once crack transAtlantic liner long before such mighty ships as those of today were even dreamed of. Percy Hallett, assistant purser of the steamer Prince Rupert, who several weeks ago sustained a.broki en le.g aboard ship, Is still a patient in the Ocean Falls Hospital. In a couple of weeks it Is expected he will have been sufficiently recovered to leave Ocean Falls for his home in Vancouver. British Columbia coast herring seiners are concentrating their activities at the present time in waters of Johnston Straits and elsewhere along the east coast of Vancouver Island in taking of fish for canning operations.
