Judging from discussion at last night's meeting on the subject of ambulance service, appears to be of the opinion that this Is a responsibility of -the hospital. However, it was decided to co-operate with a committee of the hospital board and of a public meeting which was held Sunday night to go Into ways and means of ensuring an effective ambulance service. The committee of the council, which it was understood would assume no responsibility for ambulance operation, will consist of Aid. J. S. Black, Aid. George Hills, Aid. Thomas Elliott. Aid. N. E. Arnold and the mayor. The ambulance question was brought up through receipt of a letter from Mrs. J. R, Blakcy, secretary of the public meeting, and a report from the utilities committee recommending that the hospital board be asked to Appoint commHtee to meet VUh a committee of pie council to discuss thVambuiane'e ques tlon. Each week Chester Le Maistre excels himself as master of ceremonies. He Is cool, calm and collected under verbal lire from the audience and can give the retort courteous to the remark discourteous at a moment's notice. B:uce Melville, a civilian working with an engineering firm here, opened the show with some first class singing, accompanying himself of the guitar. He has I smooth tenor voice well adapted to the hill billy and ballad type of song. He sang that very modern! tear-jerker "There's a Star I Spangled Banner Waving i Somewhere followed by "Ldnesome Valley Sally." Following this was a brief quarter hour of culture and refinement In the person of Professor Drizzlepuss (one Les- Jter Patrick) who gave a mono-itjgue in a hazy manner on a Vague subject, finally telling us all about "How King John Whole-Grain Quaker Oct Has the Vitality UementlhalY Short"ln Duration Diets! Their came Jack (Foolproof) MacClelland in a medley of popular piano numbers. Jack's clowning was the highlight of the evening. Dressed gtotcs-quely, with his suit all awry and wig borrowed from Capt. Armltages's "Schoolmaster Squcers" he looked the person-iflcaUon of all the mad musical maestros In captivity. Announcing his own numbers, the tit les of which had no connecUon with the piece played, he gave us "She was pure as the Driven Snow Until She Drifted" and "I love You Truly" in two flats. Jack having the key to one of them, and as the piece de resistance, "Mother. You've worked For Me all Your Life. Why Don't You Oo Out And Work For Yourself Now?" all pure corn but It's the way Jack puts It over that makes It so very funny! What he really played was "Lady Be Good" "Sheik of Araby", "Somebody Stole My Oal (the lowdown horse thief ) and one En-tee-tle titled "Disappointed Lady." Lester Patrick's turn was next. This time he told us all about Sam Small's recruiting experiences. Dressed as a dllap-itatcd member of H. At Forces he seemed to be poor old Sam Small In very life-Following upon Sam Small we had and -enlightening monologue by Chester as Professor Carp whose rrtaltreatment of the English tongue In all Its varied reflneVhenV -was extremely comical. Spending most of his lecture time reproving he bad boys of the audience in a very pained and offended manner he rose to heights of calumny when he directed a shattering "Shame on you!" directly at the culprit. The poor Piofessor Carps of this world 1 Mel Bruce then played and sang "My Little Old Log Prairie Shack". I hope we see and hear more of Mel in later concerts as his style of entertainment is the very thing the boys want Which reminds me we haven't seen Red Painter with his gee-tar In a long time. The program ended with a Qmzz contest In which the contestants were three young ladies working with the Acropolis troops and three R. C. A. F. boys, The girls were Bety Lean Bernlce Hlppler and Barbara Merchant and the men were Corporal Oeorge Blore, Corporal Maurice Pacquet and Sergeant Joe TTlmbley. The contestants got as much fun out of their trials and ertors as did tVe audience and, when It was over, entered good-naturedly into the singing of "Pistol Packin' Mamma" which was their forfeit for the night It was a grand programme from start to finish. "Improved treatment techniques have reduced mortality from some of these disease, but it should not be overlooked that many children who recover, suffer severely from complications which may affect their health throughout life. The tragic toll of death and illness is entirely preventable. "I want to call upon parenU and guardians of the young children In our community to take advantage of the special opportunities that will be offered them to sec that the children have the simple protective treatment.
