United States Scores Again Against Japanese in Kula Gulf Fall of Munda Immienent ALLIED HEADQUARTERS IN TIIF SOUTHWEST PACIFIC, July 13 (CP) A Japanese cruiser and three destroyers were sunk Monday night and early Tuesday by American naval units in a second battle in Kula Gulf off New Georgia in the Solomons. The battle may be still in progress. Two other Japanese destroyers were reported as being probably sunk. No mention was made of American losses. The latest losses raise to at least 13 and possibly to 17 the number of warships Japan has expended in attempts to reinfoice the beleaguered garrison at Munda air base with troops and i supplies. LONDON, July 13 (CP)-British and Canadian forces, striking swiftly up the eastern coast of Sicily, have captured the port of Augusta while other British troops have landed near Catania, half way up the coast, and Allied forces to the south have swept into three towns to seal off virtually the entire southeastern corner of the island,1 Allied-announcement said to day. Augusta is a port nineteen miles north of Syracuse which was captured Saturday and Catania is thirty miles north of Syracuse. Catania Is the Italian bastion midway along the coast in the Allied drive to seize all i that area north to Messina and close off Sicily from the main land.
