VOL) CANADA The Department of National Defence Is again appealing to owners of Colt, Smith and Wesson and Webley pistols or revolvers, of .38, 45 and .455 calibres, also Colt Automatic of .45 calibre, to turn them over for use of the Canadian Army. The need is urgent. The United States, principal source to Canada of this type of weapon, currently requires almost Its entire production to equip its expanding fighting forces and to meet commitments to the United Kingdom. Public co-operation and unselfishness w needed to help equip the Army in training at home so that it will be possible to release service weap-ens for overseas. ! It is urged that patriotic citizens respond whole-heartedly to this appeal on behalf of Canada's men in uniform. Hie necessity Is directed also to Reserve Army Officers on the Retired List. It Is Doint- ed out that If entitled to draw pistols later, same will be issued. I Weapons may be offered as a contribution or for appraisal and i sale. Persons deslrine- will receive cheques directly from l tha T""W 4 . . . . . . utjui ininu ui national Defence. AND Y.W.C.A. In Mrs. Garbutt's absence it always falls upon someone at the led Triangle Hut to write the article for this column. After scratching my head for some time I realize that our Y. M. C. A. Hftstess really does remarkably well to give the column that needed and ever-present spicy flavor that Its readers so appreciate. In Mrs. Garbutt's absence her favorite cat, "Dutch," took pen in hand and wrote Saturdays article It was Indeed newsy. In conversation with Bill Maloney, Naval Police, I learned that he has had some choice ribbing, from the boys because "Dutch" thinks he's handsome. In speaking to "Dutch" this afternoon I suggested that it's not the duty of cats to take advantage of good-looking sailors. I let h'm off lightly this time but I shall have to censor his scripts after this I'm afraid. There Is another angle to this whole affair too. In conversation with two sailors from Naval Signals last night, I learned that their favorite kitty "Dah" by name-has presented the station with four little "dlts." "Dah" is black and and white, and so are the "dits". Of course the fact that "Dutch" Is black has nothing particularly to do with it but I'll bet a nickel thit his face Is going to be red when h leads this article. Anyway, the lads at Signals had a pool On as to when, the blessed event would take place. Well, I hear that O. D. Harry Bains and Tel Rennle Jeannette split the pool. might be going down to Victoria early In April o a conference. This i piece of information was Interesting to all of us but Breen Melvln, hut manager, was especially jub-' llant. When I get to Victoria I'm going to try to find out why. Just now Bob Gibson is away for a few days I but will be back soon. In conversa-i tion with Mrs. Lee of the canteen 1 staff I learn that "Dutch" is being well-looked after but seems tired all the time these days. Spring We are all glad to have Johnny Grey of Terrace for a few days. Johnny Is a Y Supervisor at a camp back there. He seems to be enjoy-the work out here. The flames were not observed until they had burst forth on the upper floor and, by that time, the fire had gained considerable headway. The most of the personal belongings upstairs were destroyed. The lower part of the house was to large extent saved. Miss Violet Wesley left last Tuesday for Terrace for a xisltwlth Mr. and Mrs. George Turner. Prior to her departure there was a party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wesley, the guests Including George Middleton, bridge guard. There was music and refreshments were served.
